How 6point4 keeps you safe.

What happens when a conversation gets dark, how we make sure you know you're talking to an AI, and who 6point4 is for. Last updated October 7, 2026.

If you are in crisis right now

Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line), or call 911 if you or someone else is in immediate danger. All are free and available 24/7. 6point4 is not an emergency service.

You are talking to an AI

6point4 is an AI, not a person and not a therapist. A notice saying so stays on screen under the message box, a reminder appears in the conversation after every three hours of continued use, and 6point4 will always tell you it is an AI if you ask.

Our crisis protocol

  • Detection. Every message is checked for signs of suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or intent to harm someone else, using both phrase detection and a signal from the AI itself. Once detected, the conversation stays in crisis mode until it ends.
  • Referral, shown by the app itself. A card with 988, the Crisis Text Line and 911 appears on screen, with tap-to-call and tap-to-text links. It does not depend on the AI remembering to mention them.
  • A safer response. The AI switches to short, grounding replies. It will not describe methods, help plan or encourage harm, or give risky practical advice, and it keeps gently pointing toward real people who can help.
  • No limit gets in the way. Messages we recognise as a crisis — and every message in a conversation already in crisis — are answered even if your monthly allowance has run out, and the crisis lines stay on screen when it has.
6point4 does not contact emergency services or anyone else on your behalf.

Adults only

6point4 is for people 18 and older. Companion chatbots may not be suitable for some minors.

If someone tells us they are under 18, the conversation ends kindly, with crisis resources, and the account can't start new conversations. It can be deleted at any time.

What 6point4 is not

Not therapy, counseling, or medical care, and not a substitute for a licensed professional. See our Terms.

Reporting

We count how often the crisis card is shown — a number per day, with no names, messages or account details — and publish yearly totals on this page, as California, Oregon and Washington law require. The first report will cover 2027.
